After the first round of voting, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie unveils the six watches that its Academy has nominated in each category.
The 25th Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève—basically the Oscars of the watch world—has just dropped the list of finalists. The big winners in each category will be revealed at the awards ceremony in Geneva on 13 November 2025. The nominated watches will be exhibited in Shanghai, Istanbul, and Geneva, then in Dubai after the prize announcement.
The GPHG was launched in 2001 and has since become a public-interest foundation. It all begins with the GPHG Academy—a diverse group of major players from across the watch industry. The Academy is divided into six groups, representing everyone from watchmakers, designers, and artisans to component suppliers, educators, retailers, journalists, influencers, and top executives from the brands themselves. There is also a group made up of collectors, clients, and other prominent personalities who help keep watchmaking exciting and in the spotlight. Together, they decide which watches make the cut as nominees. From there, a jury of 30 members evaluates the finalists and selects the winners ahead of the November event.
It’s worth noting that several major players, from Rolex and Patek Philippe and the Swatch Group, often choose not to participate. Even so, the GPHG is still the biggest deal in watchmaking when it comes to awards. The GPHG is more about celebrating creativity, technical wizardry, and fresh ideas. It’s also a brilliant showcase (and PR moment) for independent and rising brands looking to make their mark. Every category has six finalists, but the most coveted prize of all is the top honour “Best in Show.” It goes to the watch that’s not only technically brilliant but also captures the essence of what the industry’s all about. And yes, any watch from any category can win it. Here are the nominees:
